{"id":1723,"date":"2023-11-24T18:14:48","date_gmt":"2023-11-24T23:14:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pensivejournal.com\/?p=1723"},"modified":"2023-11-24T18:14:48","modified_gmt":"2023-11-24T23:14:48","slug":"the-medium-channels-duende","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pensivejournal.com\/poetry\/the-medium-channels-duende\/","title":{"rendered":"The Medium Channels Duende"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">I am no more than a secretary of the invisible thing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 120px;\">\u2014Czeslaw Milosz<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>La due\u00f1a<\/em> is the real<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">mistress of the house,<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">mischief, a <em>di\u00e3no<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">disturbing the peace<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">under our skin.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She rolls naked<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">in the snow, white<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">fire, barking black<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">sounds like birth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">She infests anthills<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>and bedroom walls,<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">a succubus, keening.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">As imp and pixie,<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">she sports horns<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">and wings, or wings<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>and barbs, smells<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">like blood and loam<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">and luck, both good<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">and wild. We glimpse<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">ourselves in her.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s a <em>djin<\/em> named<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Qarinah, a siren<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">singing the blues.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">She is Eutychia,<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">borne of <em>Nyx, qi<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>and <em>brio<\/em> and <em>joie<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>de vivre<\/em>. She\u2019s Lilith,<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">a lamia sucking<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">blood, queen of night.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">She lurks, steals<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>babies by charm<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">or spell, howls<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">at the crowning<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">of the moon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">She is <em>duende<\/em>, the mad<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>poet in the attic,<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">who sleepwalks<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">through trapdoors,<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">scribbling prophecies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">She is flamenco<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>incarnate, a <em>bailaora<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">swishing her skirts,<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">drumming her heels.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">She climbs in<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">through the bottoms<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>of our feet,<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">wells our eyes,<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">her castanets pulsing<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">live, ululating<\/p>\n<p>off the empty page.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am no more than a secretary of the invisible thing. \u2014Czeslaw Milosz &nbsp; La due\u00f1a is the real mistress of the house, mischief, a di\u00e3no disturbing the peace under our skin. &nbsp; She rolls naked in the snow, white fire, barking black sounds like birth.
