I gave a gift to my parents,
\nan indecipherable scrawl,<\/p>\n
they put it on the fridge, sent it to the relatives
\nand taught me to do more than crawl.<\/p>\n
I gave a gift to my beloved,
\na bleeding, pulsating thing.
\nShe dabbed its red tears, soothed all its fears,
\nand it began to sing.<\/p>\n
I gave a gift to my creator,
\na sodden, warbling prayer.
\nHe calmed its weeping, and after speaking,
\nit became something that I could share.<\/p>\n
I gave a gift to a student,
\na book instead of a broom,
\nhe picked it up as if for good luck,
\nthen threw it across the room.<\/p>\n
So I gave a gift to his mother
\nand told her what he did,
\nshe went to ground him and promptly found him
